NOPD is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Interstate-10 West at the Airline Drive exit this morning (May 28).
At approximately 4:52 a.m. NOPD Traffic Fatality Investigators responded to a car crash under the elevated portion of Interstate-10 West at the Airline Drive exit. Upon arrival they discovered a white Dodge Ram pickup truck, occupied by the 53-year-old male driver.
A witness told officers that the truck struck the left guardrail, then veered to the right of the interstate and struck the right guardrail before flipping over the elevated portion. The truck came to finale rest upside down on the ground. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene. EMS successfully used the Jaws of Life to extract the victim from the truck.
Blood and alcohol tests are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office releases victims’ names and official cause of death.
