NOPD Arrests Four in Simple Battery at Wisner Boulevard and Lelong Drive

Four individuals were arrested this evening (May 14, 2017) after an incident occurred involving two individuals being hit by pellets fired from a paintball gun at the intersection of Wisner Boulevard and Lelong Drive.

The victims – a 41-year-old male and a nine-year-old juvenile female – were located at the intersection just before 8 p.m. when paintball pellets were allegedly fired from a passing dark-colored Jeep on North Carrollton Avenue, striking the male victim in the groin and the juvenile victim in the forearm and shoulder. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene.

A witness who was driving behind the vehicle at the time of the incident followed the suspect vehicle to a parking lot at the intersection of Duplessis and St. Denis streets, where Third District officers were on patrol at about 8:23 p.m. The witness flagged down the officers and informed them of the suspect vehicle. The officers approached the vehicle and conducted a search, discovering a paintball gun and accompanying accessories. The officers then returned to the scene of the incident, where further investigation linked the vehicle occupants to the incident.

Arrested in this incident were the following:

  • A 15-year old juvenile male, identified as the perpetrator who allegedly fired the paintball gun at the victims. He was booked into the Juvenile Justice Center on two counts of simple battery.
  • A 16-year-old juvenile male, booked into the Juvenile Justice Center on two counts of accessory to simple battery.
  • Clarence McMiller (DOB: 01-02-2000), booked into Central Lockup on two counts each of accessory to simple battery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. A photo of McMiller is not available at this time.
  • Jadon Dawson (DOB: 10-06-1998), booked into Central Lockup on two counts each of accessory to simple battery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. A photo of Dawson is not available at this time.

The victims suffered minor injuries from the paintball pellet impacts. The two were examined by EMS, but refused further treatment.
