NOPD Fifth District Task Force officers arrested Lester Carter (DOB: 12-15-1986) and Larry Crockett (DOB: 4-02-1992) after they were found to be in possession of marijuana and guns during a traffic stop.
On Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at or about 6:45 p.m., members of the Fifth District Task Force were patrolling in the district. While patrolling, the officers observed a traffic violation by silver four-door Lexus occupied by five occupants traveling in the 1800 block of North Prieur Street. Officers then conducted a traffic stop on the occupants of the Lexus.
During the traffic stop, the officers observed a firearm sticking out from beneath the driver's seat. At this point, the officers asked the occupants to exit the vehicle. For officers' safety, the officers conducted a pat-down search of the occupants. During the search, officers located two more firearms near the waistband of Carter and marijuana.
During a background a check, officers learned that Carter was currently on probation for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and several drug related offenses that prohibited him from having a firearm. The second occupant, identified as Larry Crockett (DOB: 4-02-1992), was also arrested after officers discovered he had a warrant out for an aggravated battery on a correction officer in Jefferson Parish.
Both subjects were arrested and booked accordingly into Central Lockup.
