NOPD VOWS, U.S. Marshals Arrest Suspect in Homicide Investigation

On May 31, 2023, the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals arrested David Madison Jr. (black male, DOB: 05-24-2002) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on March 1, 2023, in the 2300 block of Allen Street.

At about 5:27 p.m. on May 31, NOPD Fifth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive adult male lying in the street and having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was declared deceased on scene.

On March 6, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 43-year-old Tamond Dunbar and determined cause of death to be from injuries sustained via gunshot wound.

Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Section detectives developed and positively identified Madison as the perpetrator in this incident. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant on one count of second-degree murder.

On May 31, NOPD VOWS and U.S. Marshals located Madison at a residence in the Fifth District. He was arrested without incident and booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives at 504-658-5300.
