NOPD Investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting on Bundy Road

NOPD is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place earlier today (June 22).

Shortly before 2 p.m. NOPD officers responded to a call of an officer needing assistance in the Eastwind Apartments in the 5100 block of Bundy Road.

Upon arrival investigators learned that a NOPD officer had responded to a medical call for service at the apartment complex and was told by one of the first responders on site that an unknown male was seen walking around carrying a rifle. The officer spotted the unknown male carrying the weapon and shots were fired.

The suspect fled the scene and barricaded himself in an apartment with three additional individuals. NOPD’s SWAT team arrived after brief negotiation period, all four surrendered without further incident. Neither the officer nor the suspect was injured.

One adult male was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer. He is being booked as a John Doe because he has provided investigators with multiple false names. Officials will determine his actual identity through fingerprints. The other three individuals involved were questioned and released.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the NOPD Public Integrity Bureau at 504-658-6800.
