NOPD Arrests Suspect for Illegal Gun Possession

NEW ORLEANS – On July 18, 2017, the NOPD arrested Anthony Lewis (DOB: 08-31-1993) after he was found to be in illegal possession of a handgun.

At about 2:53 p.m. on the arrest date, Seventh District officers traveling along the I-10 East Service Road viewed an unknown black male, later identified as Lewis, walking with a black female along the service road. Officers observed an unknown object protruding from Lewis’ waistband. While stopped at the intersection of Tara Lane and South I-10 Service Road, officers observed a clear and unobstructed view of an L-shaped object protruding from Lewis’ waistband. For these reasons, the officers conducted an investigatory stop on Lewis for a possible gun law violation.

During the search, officers discovered a concealed firearm from Lewis’ waistband. During questioning, Lewis told officers that he did not have a concealed carry permit.

Based on these circumstances, Lewis was arrested and booked into Central Lockup for illegal carrying of a firearm.

Anyone with further information on this incident is asked to contact the NOPD Seventh District at 504-658-6070.
