The NOPD continues its investigation into a homicide that occurred on December 24, 2023, at the intersection of Canal Street and Exchange Place, seeking to interview a person of interest as well as seeking a vehicle of interest in this incident.

At about 3:26 p.m. on December 24, NOPD Eighth District officers responded to an initial call of a shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female who had sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she was later declared deceased.

Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Section detectives have developed the pictured unknown black male as a person of interest in this incident. The subject is not currently wanted on criminal charges. However, detectives feel that he may have knowledge of information vital to the investigation and wish to interview him.

Additionally, detectives are seeking the pictured gray SUV as a vehicle of interest in this investigation.

Anyone with additional information that can assist in this ongoing investigation is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives at 504-658-5300.
