NOPD Investigating Homicide in Seventh District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred today (January 26, 2024) in the 14,000 block of Michoud Boulevard that left one victim dead and a toddler abandoned at the scene.

According to investigators an injured adult male flagged down a passing motorist at about 11:14 a.m.  The man was holding a male toddler of approximately three years of age.

When Seventh District officers and EMS arrived, the unidentified victim, believed to be an Hispanic male, was declared deceased, possibly from gunshot wound(s).

The child, who appeared to be unharmed, was taken into custody by NOPD and turned over to the Department of Children and Family Services which is trying to find the child's relatives.

Meantime, investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
