NOPD Arrests Suspect in Homicide Investigation

The NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals today (January 19, 2023) arrested Travis Brown (black male, DOB: 10-14-1998) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on November 12, 2023, in the 14700 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

At about 5:50 p.m. on November 12, NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of a shot person at the location. Upon arrival, officers learned the victim, a 25-year-old male, had been transported to a local hospital by private conveyance.  He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the hospital a short time later.

On November 15, 2023, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 25-year-old Erik Mukhtar and determined cause of death to be from gunshot wound injuries.

As the investigation progressed, NOPD Homicide Section detectives developed and positively identified Brown as the perpetrator. Detectives then obtained an arrest warrant for Brown on one count of second-degree murder.

Brown was located today by NOPD VOWS and the U.S. Marshals at a residence in the Seventh District. Brown was arrested without incident and will be booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with additional information that can assist in this investigation is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives at 504-658-5300.
