Want to Adopt-A-Cop for Mardi Gras 2018?

The New Orleans Police & Justice Foundation (NOPJF) is encouraging parade goers and locals to Adopt-A-Cop this Mardi Gras season in an effort to assist with feeding officers working long hours on parade routes and in districts.

The program raises funds to provide meals, snacks and drinks for law enforcement personnel during the 12 days of extended shifts that accompany Carnival season.

“During Carnival it is easy to forget that the men and women of the New Orleans Police Department are working long hours to ensure all the parades roll, and that everyone is able to enjoy Mardi Gras safely,” said Melanie Talia, NOPJF President and CEO. "So don’t forget to contribute to Adopt-A-Cop this carnival season because enjoying Mardi Gras means that someone else is working to make it happen. There would be no purple, green and gold without the krewe in blue!"

Beginning February 2 and continuing through Fat Tuesday (Feb.13), NOPD officers will be policing the parades and the activities associated with New Orleans’ tricentennial Mardi Gras celebration. The Adopt-A-Cop food truck makes rounds and brings sandwiches and snacks to other law enforcement agencies working the parade route including the Louisiana State Police, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and Tulane Police Department.  The program also assist with feeding NOPD officers working extended hours patrolling the city’s eight police districts.

“Our men and women of the NOPD working during Mardi Gras greatly appreciate the food the NOPJF provides every year,” said Chief Michael Harrison. “It means a lot to our officers to be able to have that good food, that we can eat quickly and easily, while we’re out there keeping people safe. We are grateful to the citizens of New Orleans for making it happen every year.”

During the 12 days of Mardi Gras, NOPD officers will work nearly 54,000 hours along the parade routes and on the streets of the city. And for as little as $10, donors can sponsor a Mardi Gras meal or snack for an officer working the parades.
