NOPD VOWS Unit Arrests Suspects in Armed Robbery, Attempted Murder, Attempted Kidnapping on Dinkins Street

On January 22, 2018, members of the NOPD Violent Offender Warrant Squad arrested Marlin Davis (pictured at left, DOB: 06-29-2000), and Dhaz Wiltz (pictured at right, DOB: 02-28-2000) in connection with an incident that occurred in the 8700 block of Dinkins Street on December 30, 2017.

At about 12:30 a.m., Seventh District officers responded to a call of an armed carjacking in the area. Upon arrival, officers observed bullet casings in the street, along with an empty purse and small box. Officers then relocated to an area hospital to speak with the victim, who stated that at around midnight, he was walking outside of his house to get his girlfriend’s purse. At the time, he noticed a yellow Ford Mustang with a black top traveling northbound on Dinkins Street. The victim returned to the house and shortly returned outside to move his vehicle from the driveway, again seeing the Mustang and a second unknown black vehicle sitting idle on nearby Benson Street. The victim then said he saw approximately eight unknown black males running toward him, one of which was wearing all black clothing and pointing a handgun toward him. A struggle then ensued, with the males reportedly attempting to pull the victim into the back seat of the vehicle. The victim suffered numerous injuries in the altercation, and reportedly heard one of the males say that the subjects should kill the victim. At that time, the victim said, he managed to remove himself from the altercation and fled on foot toward his residence, at which time he said he heard numerous gunshots. The victim said the subjects then entered his 2006 silver BMW 525I and fled the scene on Dinkins Street. The victim was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg, along with lacerations reported from the altercation.

As investigation into the incident progressed, detectives were able to develop Davis and Wiltz as two of the perpetrators and obtain warrants for their arrest. The two arranged to meet with detectives for questioning, after which time the two were taken into custody.

Both Davis and Wiltz were booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for armed robbery, attempted second degree murder and attempted simple kidnapping.
