NOPD VOWS Officers Make Arrests in Aggravated Battery by Cutting & Shooting Incidents

Members of the NOPD’s Violent Offenders Warrant Squad arrested Freddie Williams (DOB:12/16/81) and Dishawn Branch (DOB: 06/20/96) on January 11, 2018 in connection with two respective incidents in the Second and Fifth Districts.

Freddie Williams (DOB: 12/16/81) was arrested in connection with a domestic aggravated battery by cutting incident that occurred on November 24, 2017 in the 1600 block of Dublin Street. At about 12:20 a.m., Williams started a verbal altercation with a victim that turned physical. During the altercation, Second District officers learned that Williams armed himself with a kitchen knife while the victim tried to flee from him. The victim then told police Williams caught up with him and stabbed him behind the right knee. The victim also received several lacerations to his face prior to the stabbing. 

Williams was also arrested for a separate criminal court capias for simple battery and municipal attachment for unauthorized use of movables.

Dishawn Branch (DOB: 6/20/96) was arrested in connection with an aggravated battery by shooting incident that occurred on January 3, 2018 at the intersection of Mandeville and North Miro Streets. At around 3:45 p.m., the victim told Fifth District officers an argument started between her and Branch. During the argument, he retrieved a handgun and shot at the victim. The victim sustained a grazed gunshot wound to her buttock and a male victim, who was also involved in the argument, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and hand.

Branch was arrested for two counts of aggravated battery by shooting, aggravated assault with firearm, discharging a firearm during a violent crime and aggravated criminal damage to property. He was also arrested for felon in possession of a firearm (40 Caliber, Sig Sauer) for attempting to flee out of the rear door with a gun in his hand prior to his arrest.
