NOPD Arrests Suspect in Fatal Shooting on St. Charles Avenue

The NOPD has arrested Eddie Dingle (DOB: 06-30-1996) in connection with the homicide of Maurice Williams that occurred on February 13, 2018 in the 2400 block of St. Charles Avenue.

Dingle turned himself in to NOPD today (February 16, 2018) at the offices of his attorney. Dingle was subsequently booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for second degree murder.

On February 13 at about 4:35 p.m., NOPD officers heard gunshots ring out while they were working along the St. Charles Avenue Mardi Gras parade route. The officers rushed over to the opposite side of the parade route to investigate, where they observed the victim – later identified by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office as Williams – suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. New Orleans EMS arrived on the scene quickly and transported the victim to a local hospital.

During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that the adult male victim was reportedly involved in a verbal altercation with another unknown male subject, who allegedly produced a gun and opened fire.

The victim in this incident later died while at the hospital, at which point NOPD Homicide Unit detectives took over the investigation.

Upon further investigation, detectives developed and positively identified Dingle as the perpetrator and obtained a warrant for his arrest for second degree murder in connection with this incident.

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is asked to contact NOPD Homicide Detective Thaddeus Williams at 504-658-5300.
