NOPD Arrests Suspect for Illegal Possession of a Firearm

On February 12, 2018, the NOPD arrested Zarrius Travis (DOB: 08-18-2000) for alleged illegal possession of a handgun in the 400 block of Bourbon Street.

At about 8:45 p.m., officers patrolling in the area responded to a call of a suspicious person.  Upon arrival, they found that a Louisiana State Fire Marshal agent had apprehended an unknown black male matching the description of the suspicious person broadcast to police. In searching the suspect, later identified as Travis, officers observed an unknown bulge along the waistband of Travis’ pants. A patdown search revealed the bulge to be a concealed fully loaded handgun. At the time, Travis had no identification or permit on his person to authorize carry of a concealed firearm.

Travis was then placed under arrest and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for illegal carrying of a firearm.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact Eighth District detectives at 504-658-6080.
