NOPD to Take Part in City Police, Fire and EMS Inspection and Memorial Mass on December 10

The NOPD will join the New Orleans Fire Department and New Orleans EMS in taking part in the City of New Orleans’ Annual Inspection and Memorial Mass on Sunday, December 10, 2017. The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. in Jackson Square, followed by a mass at 11 a.m. at St. Louis Cathedral.

The inspection will be led by Mayor Mitch Landrieu, NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison, NOFD Superintendent Timothy McConnell and New Orleans EMS Director Dr. Jeffrey Elder. Others joining the inspection will include representatives of the New Orleans City Council, the Archdiocese of New Orleans and NOPD and NOFD chaplains, along with other dignitaries.

The Inspection and Memorial Service dates back to the early 1900s and is celebrated in solemn remembrance of police, firefighters and emergency medical technicians who have bravely sacrificed their lives to the New Orleans community.  This ceremony is also a commemoration to recognize the dedicated service of both active and retired members.

The Inspection and Memorial Mass is free and open to the public. The mass will be televised locally on WLAE-TV (Cox Cable Channel 12) for those unable to attend.
