NOPD Investigating a Homicide on Caton Street

The NOPD is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred today (December 6, 2017) in the 2100 block of Caton Street.

At about 7:14 p.m., Third District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim lying on the sidewalk suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was transported to an area hospital via EMS, where he later died from his injuries. At that time, the incident was reclassified as a homicide.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive.

No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family
