NOPD and NOEMS Roll-Up Their Sleeves for a Special Blood Drive

NOPD’s Sixth District officers are joining with New Orleans EMS to host a blood drive for a local child fighting cancer.

On August 3 and August 4, first responders will host a blood drive to benefit 11-year-old Lane Begnaud who is battling cancer.  Lane is a huge fan of first responders so the two departments plan to show their support for Lane and his family by encouraging area residents to join them at The Blood Mobile, which will be at EMS Headquarters (2929 Earhart Boulevard) from 3:30 - 8:30 p.m. on both days.

In April of this year Lane was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a very rare form of bone cancer.  Less than 20,000 cases are reported nationwide every year.  He spends an average of four days a week in Tulane Medical Center receiving chemotherapy, plus he needs blood and platelet transfusions.

The blood drive on August 3-4, 2017, is open to the public.

Contact New Orleans EMS at 504-658-2925 for any additional information.
