NOPD Quickly Arrests Suspect in Homicide Investigation

The NOPD has arrested a suspect in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on April 2, 2024, in the 800 block of Orleans Ave that left a male victim dead.

At approximately 12:20 a.m., NOPD officers were dispatched to a call of an aggravated battery by cutting in the 600 block of Bourbon Street.  Officers and detectives arrived on scene and observed the known male stab wound victim lying on the sidewalk. Officers immediately rendered aid. New Orleans EMS units arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Upon further investigation, detectives determined Darnell Hunter (black male, DOB: 08-06-1990) to be the perpetrator in this incident and obtained an arrest warrant on one count of second-degree murder. Hunter was subsequently arrested and booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will officially identify the victim and determine cause of death upon completion of autopsy.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with additional information that can assist in this investigation is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Section detectives at 504-658-5300.
