ARRESTED: NOPD Arrests Suspect for Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm

NOPD officers have arrested Desmond Taylor (DOB: 09/26/1996) after he was found in possession of a firearm that was reported stolen during a Fifth District auto burglary.

On April 24, 2019, Seventh District officers observed a white four door Toyota Corolla, which was believed to be utilized in an aggravated battery by shooting that occurred earlier that day in the 6700 block of Wales Street. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, at which time the vehicle fled and the officers engaged in an authorized pursuit of the vehicle.

The vehicle reportedly proceeded into the Desiring Housing Development, where two unknown black males were observed exiting the vehicle through the rear passenger side. Officers engaged in a foot pursuit, at which time they observed Taylor discard a firearm and a dark colored hoodie. Officers caught up with Taylor in the 3400 block of Humanity Street, where he was detained.

Through further investigation, officers learned that the weapon, which was discarded by Taylor, was reported stolen during an auto burglary that occurred in the 2300 block of Delery Street.

Taylor was transported to the Orleans Parish Justice Center, where he was booked accordingly.

Anyone with any information regarding this incident should contact Seventh District detectives at 504-658-6070.
